Ingredients

  • 1214 oz loaf french bread
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup kraft caramel bits
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 8 oz crème fraîche

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread into 2 to 3-inch cubes.
  2. Spray the slow cooker with non-stick spray.
  3. Press the bread down into the bottom of the slow cooker, compressing it as much as possible.
  4. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the bread.
  5. Whisk the eggs, milk, and salt together, then pour this mixture evenly over the bread.
  6. Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
  7. In a microwave, melt the caramel bits and heavy cream in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.
  8. Slice and serve the French toast casserole topped with crème fraîche and melted caramel, or as desired.

Notes

Using caramel-flavored sweetened condensed milk enhances the flavor of the dish.
Feel free to omit the crème fraîche if you prefer a simpler serving.
Adjust the cooking time based on the slow cooker’s heat settings for best results.
