Ingredients
Scale
- 12–14 oz loaf french bread
- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup kraft caramel bits
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 8 oz crème fraîche
Instructions
- Cut the bread into 2 to 3-inch cubes.
- Spray the slow cooker with non-stick spray.
- Press the bread down into the bottom of the slow cooker, compressing it as much as possible.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the bread.
- Whisk the eggs, milk, and salt together, then pour this mixture evenly over the bread.
- Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
- In a microwave, melt the caramel bits and heavy cream in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.
- Slice and serve the French toast casserole topped with crème fraîche and melted caramel, or as desired.
Notes
Using caramel-flavored sweetened condensed milk enhances the flavor of the dish.
Feel free to omit the crème fraîche if you prefer a simpler serving.
Adjust the cooking time based on the slow cooker’s heat settings for best results.
