- 4 lbs. red garnet yams
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup melted salted butter
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp. molasses
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
Instructions
- Peel the yams and slice them into 1-inch pieces. Place the slices in the slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, mix together the water and cornstarch, then pour into the slow cooker.
- Add the melted butter, molasses, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt to the slow cooker, but reserve the brown sugar for later. Stir to combine.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 4 hours without opening the lid.
- Once the cooking time is complete, add the brown sugar and gently stir to blend it in.
- Serve the candied yams warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of orange juice.
Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar to taste.
Leftover yams can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
