Ingredients
Scale
- 5 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Place the sliced, peeled apples into a 6-quart slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the apples with brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and dark brown.
- Blend the mixture using an immersion blender or transfer in batches to a blender until smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and maple syrup if desired, then cook uncovered on low for 1-2 more hours until thickened to your liking.
- Allow the apple butter to cool completely, then store in airtight jars in the refrigerator or freeze.
Notes
Adjust the amount of brown sugar based on the sweetness of your apples.
For a smoother texture, blend longer or through a fine mesh strainer.
This apple butter makes a fantastic gift when jarred nicely.
