  • Total Time: 0 hours
  • Yield: 12 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, then stir in the sour cream.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F when ready to bake.
  7. Roll the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into 3-inch circles using a cookie cutter.
  8. Place cut cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8–9 minutes, ensuring they are just barely baked for a soft texture.
  9. Allow cookies to cool completely before frosting them.
  10. To prepare the buttercream, beat the softened butter until fluffy, then gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Add milk gradually until reaching a smooth, spreadable consistency, adjusting as needed.
  12. Divide frosting into 3 bowls, coloring each with food coloring of your choice.
  13. Frost each cookie with a piping bag or offset spatula, topping with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least one hour to ensure cookies maintain shape while baking.
Feel free to experiment with different food coloring combinations for festive designs.
The frosting can be adjusted in thickness by modifying the amount of milk added.
