  • Total Time: 19 minutes
  • Yield: 18 donuts 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups apple cider
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together. In another bowl, whisk together apple cider, sugar, buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Combine the mixtures and whisk until smooth.
  3. Fill greased donut molds about 2/3 full with the batter.
  4. Bake for 7-9 minutes until edges are golden brown and donuts spring back when pressed.
  5. Remove from oven, let cool for 2 minutes, then transfer to a sheet tray.
  6. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Brush donuts with melted butter and then roll in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For softer donuts, avoid overbaking them. Check for doneness a minute early.
Feel free to add more spices like ginger for extra flavor.
Can substitute buttermilk with regular milk and a teaspoon of vinegar.
