These Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry offer a delightful experience with sweet, caramelized apple filling enveloped in flaky pastry. Perfect for dessert or a sweet treat!

  • Total Time: 52 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (2 sheets) Puff Pastry, Thawed
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 3 medium Apples (Peeled, Cored & Diced)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Flour
  • 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Thaw the Puff Pastry according to instructions while preparing the apple filling.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook until softened, stirring occasionally.
  3. Lower the heat and stir in brown sugar and cinnamon, simmer for 3 minutes until apples are caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Dust the counter with flour and roll the first sheet of Puff Pastry to an 11" square. Cut into 4 equal squares.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cooled apple mixture on half of each square, ensuring a 1/2" border remains.
  6. Whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of the pastry lightly and crimp to seal.
  7. Repeat these steps with the second sheet of Puff Pastry.
  8. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them at least 1" apart. Cut small slits on top to prevent leaking.
  9. Brush tops with egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden and puffed.
  10. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar and milk together and drizzle over warm turnovers.

Notes

Ensure the Puff Pastry is fully thawed to avoid tearing during rolling.
Cool the apple filling completely before assembling for better handling.
Adjust the amount of milk in the glaze for desired consistency.
